Just after the fireworks ended in Springfield on Saturday night, two pedestrians were hit and severely injured by a car.

It happened at the intersection of Riveside Road and Orchard Street.

The two women, ages 59 and 60, were hit while walking along the sidewalk.

Witnesses who live nearby say the man was drunk when he came speeding around the corner and up the sidewalk.

One witness said, "I was standing on the porch and all I see is the car speeding, then it hit the wall, then all I saw was the girl sliding, and the girl going up."

Police cited 24-year-old Allen Rosario of Springfield for speeding and driving an unregistered vehicle.

The two women were taken to Baystate Medical Center with serious injuries.
