In front of family, friends, and supporters, history was made in Greenfield, as the city gets its first male mayor.

As only the second mayor since Greenfield adopted a city form of government, William Martin was sworn in. Residents are eager to see what he'll do.

"I think he has some exciting ideas few years be very important, " says resident, Jean Canteen.

And some of those ideas center around strengthening the city's workforce, housing market and getting Greenfield's school system back on track. Mayor Martin was also grateful for the work done by former Mayor Christine Forgey.

"Christine Forgey pioneered the mayoral process and gave up her time for community, " explains Mayor Martin.

Martin says the key to Greenfield's future is better communication.

"There's some many ways to communicate, over the internet, different websites but not everyone has a computer or reads the paper, we have to leave our door wide open so they can drop off their suggestions, " says Mayor Martin.
