Dozens of people are saying they became sick after attending a wedding at the Cove Banquet House in Southwick.

The owner of the restaurants says whatever caused the diners to be sick did not come from their kitchen. Now, many are awaiting the results of a state and local investigation from the Department of Health.

'We had to rush my mother to Noble hospital, she has been there since, I have the paperwork right here saying that my mother has been in the hospital since June 24th with food poisoning."

Linda Baum of Southwick says her mother is one of many people who became ill after her son's wedding reception at the The Cove banquet facility in Southwick.

"Now nine to fifteen people from our wedding party got sick", said Baum

Diane Arnold was at the same party and also claims her family was hit with severe food poisoning.

"All through this week, my whole family went through it I have been home all week taking care of family, my immediate family, my daughter, my granddaughter, making chicken soup, wondering when it was gonna stop, listening to Sarah roll over in pain. No, it wasn't easy. It was terrible," said Arnold.

The guests who ate at the The Cove on June nineteenth aren't the only ones to have reported food poisoning.

We spoke with a another bride who had her reception at the Cove the same weekend, and claims 15 of her guests became ill. The bride and groom were so sick, they had to cancel their honeymoon.

The Southwick Board of Health confirmed they investigated claims of food poisoning at the Cove on more than one date. The town has enlisted the help of state health officials to determine what might have made people sick.

"Let's find out what happened, who caused it, what caused it, make some restitution. My mother has been in the hospital for a week. Who's gonna foot the bill?" said Baum.

Owner of the Cove, Patty Scuderi, says whatever the bacteria was, it was brought in from the outside, and did not originate in the Cove's kitchen.

She says health inspectors have given the Cove the green light to remain open. The wedding parties are anxious to find out the results of the state investigation.

Evidence indicates the Cove is NOT responsible. Therefor, those who became sick ate food or drink that came from outside the Cove ..cake? food elsewhere... rehearsal dinner?

yes j i did attend my sons wedding on saturday june 20th. i do not know of june 19th except people went to hospital. as far as the staff eating we did not have a buffet we had a sit down dinner-@10 people did not show because of a death. the cove ran out of food for the guests that were there, they somehow did come up with meal within 20 min. so i don't know anything about staff members. as far as suing im not sure what your hearing but i haven't seen a lawyer and haven't been to crabbys in 2 yr

The problem in my mind is that the owner knew something was wrong and instead of asking for help from board of health, they tried to fix it themselves. Had they gone to the BOH the would have found out right away the dishwasher was the problem, saving problems for everyone else.

Linda, were you even at the function? It's sad how everyone is looking for $$$. Is that what this is about? Why doesn't anyone report the true facts. How about the fact that the staff eats the food and they didn't get sick.. How about one person complained about Crabby's.. again.. looking for easy $$$...while the rest of us work hard and listen to the true facts.

Maybe the groom from the 6/19 wedding shouldn't have brought what he did to the wedding. Get your facts Dan

dan m if it is proven i still don't think joe will show remorse he wont even pay some of his employees minimum wage. the bare minimum is too much for him to pay. he probably tried to save money by not washing his hands.

The owner shows no remorse because he knows that he was doing something wrong. He cut corners everywhere he could. My son worked there and has told us recent stories of there being no soap for the dishwasher. The list goes on. Not only that but the guy paid some of his employees well below min and under the table. Don't back the owner unless you know the inside story!

It's awful that your son's wedding was tainted in it's aftermath, but it's not always the restaurants fault when it comes to situations like this. If the owner is showing "no remorse" it could possibly be he is just as baffled as everyone else at this point and is not sure where this bacteria originated from. I'm sure if proven the issue stems from his kitchen he will show remorse and take any necessary action to resolve matters. Would you admit guilt of something if you were not sure?

I think the blame should wait until this is all investigated. The place is still open so it must be okay. Sometimes people bring in something from the outside that is the problem, that's why most places don't allow it. I'm not saying this was it but wait, don't bad mouth a place until all the facts are in. Too bad all those people got sick.

The restaurant can be totally safe in it's handling of food, but if the food coming in from a supplier is contaminated, people will get sick. The restaurant can't know the food coming in was bad- the lettuce could have had bacteria or something. Wait and see who is at fault before you blame the restaurant. If they deserve it, after the investigation, then fine.

My wife and I are the parents of the groom from the 6/19 wedding there, and I can tell you that this illness was very, very painful, and I would hope the state does not let the cove do this to anyone else in the future! The owner has no remorse and does not want to take responsability!!How many othr food related complaints were there? They could of killed someone!
