Former Teacher Indicted On Rape Charges

24 year old former teacher, Lisa Lavoie, has been indicted on three counts of rape of a child, three counts of aggravated rape and one count of child enticement.

Lisa Lavoie walked into Holyoke District Court in March, accused of having a relationship with her 15 year old 8th grade student.

Soon, her fate will be decided in Hampden Superior Court. The indictments are in and we're learning more about the charges she's facing and what went on throughout the relationship.

The first is Rape of a Child. She's facing three counts, inferring this happened three times. The locations, according to the indictments, show this is alleged to have happened twice in Ludlow and once in West Springfield. The prosecution will need to prove that Lavoie and her student engaged in sexual activity. If convicted, the maximum Lavoie will do is life in prison.

The second charge is Aggravated Rape and Abuse of a Child. The ADA assigned to this case, James Goodhines, says a charge like this is brought down when there's a mandated reporter involved the relationship. A mandated reporter is defined as a teacher, or authority figure, who deals with children, which Lavoie did. If found guilty, the mandatory minimum sentence is 10 years behind bars. Lavoie is facing three counts here too.

The last is enticing a child. To convict, the prosecution would need to prove Lavoie coaxed her student into a car or building with the intent of sex.

Those are the charges. Since they are so fresh, there's no date for arraignment in Superior Court just yet.

Lavoie is still scheduled for a pre-trial hearing at the end of the month in Holyoke.
