Jason Cook in Court

By Meghan Backus

Twenty-four-year-old Jason Cook of Southwick leaned on crutches as he stood in Hampden Superior Court and pleaded not guilty to charges of vehicular homicide and manslaughter.

Cook was indicted last week in the October accident that killed Bob Pisani of Russell. Police say Cook was driving a Black Saab down Russell Road in Westfield when he crossed over the center line and hit Pisani's Dodge Neon head-on.

Pisani's family was devastated. When we spoke to his wife Ginger, just two weeks after the crash, she told us what she missed most about her husband. "Just him being here, him hugging me and mostly watching him with my kids that's what I miss," she said. Pisani left two young children, his daughter Lauren and his new son, Joseph.

Ginger says it's hard to know that her husband is gone, while the man allegedly responsible for his death is walking free.

Cook was released on $5,000 personal sureity, under the conditions that he's not allowed to operate a motor vehicle and had to report today to the Westfield Police Department for booking.
