Police ID Mother Who Left Newborn At Motel

West Springfield police now know the identity of the woman who left her newborn child at a motel. Police tell us she is a Holyoke woman. They are not releasing her name yet but she is going to be charged with child abandonment.

A couple staying at The Welcome Inn off of Riverdale Street in West Springfield was shocked to find the newborn baby left alone.

They say on Saturday night they were staying in room 4 at the motel and heard partying next door. Later on that evening, they heard the sounds of a newborn baby left alone and crying.

"We heard what sort of sounded like crying so I kicked the door open and in the middle of the bed there was a baby and it was still covered in everything, the cord was still attached and there were blankets around it but not really covering it,” said Motel Guest Kim Dougherty

West Springfield police say when they arrived the baby was still breathing and was rushed to Baystate Medical Center. The condition of the baby is not being released.

Hopefully this mother does not get the baby back. She chose to leave it behind with the discarded beer cans, that should be the last she sees of her child!!
