A South Hadley teen has been cleared of charges connecting him with setting off and possessing chemicals use to build dangerous explosives.

Today the jury found 19-year old jack Robison not guilty of setting off malicious explosives and detonating them near people and property.

Back in February 2008, videos posted to you tube showed Robison setting off explosives in rural area, prompting police to search his mother's home in South Hadley.

Inside they found a variety of volatile chemicals and the entire neighborhood had to be shut down and residents evacuated while the fire department removed them.

Those you-tube videos were used as key evidence by prosecutor Alice Perry.

The prosecution said Robison has no regard for the potential danger of the explosives.

In the end it was Robison's lawyer that the jury sided with, arguing that the case came down to character, that Robison is just a curious kid pursuing a career in chemistry

"He set it off with no one around, as far away in as safe of a way as he could do it and learn more about the energetic material he was interested in" said Attorney David Hoose.

Robison said the verdict comes after a long , stressful year.

He plans on moving ahead with his dream to gain a doctorate degree from the University of Massachusetts.

Friends and family were by Robison's side throughout this whole ordeal, all were elated and relieved that this is all over, and that everyone can move on.

It's horrendous that a public official would endanger the welfare of a brilliant young man. This case NEVER should have gone to trial. This young man was threatened with 20 YEARS in PRISON! A threat much worse than some imagined destruction of property. When do felony charges get filed for such illegitimate harassment from public officials? Thankfully, the jury came through!

I don't understand this at all. Big deal on what this kid had. Your government has stuff 100 times worse then what he had. Leave people alone!

I would vouch for this inquisitive kid any time. Indeed, a fine day in Massachusetts.

This was a wonderful vindication of a peaceful kid who just loves to learn. Can't this DA find something else to do for a living?
