"An all around great guy." That’s how family and friends describe Nicholas Perry.
The 24-year old from Southbridge died in an early morning crash on Saturday, after an oncoming car crossed the yellow line.
CBS 3 Springfield spoke with Perry's family who explained what it feels like to get the phone call no one ever wants.
"I immediately just dropped to the floor, and started [crying] my eyes out". Like a nightmare, that’s what it felt like, “said Perry’s sisters Cylie and Amanda Branconnier.
It was a Saturday morning like any other. Nicholas Perry was just driving to his job at the Lewis Tree Service.
He was taking his usual trip on Route 20 in Brimfield around 5:30 a.m, when a Ford Pickup truck crossed lanes and hit Perry’s car.
He died on the scene.
The driver of that pickup truck, Kevin Smith of Wales, remains hospitalized in serious condition.
Perry’s family described him as hard working, he loved sports, especially football, and he loved his family and his girlfriend of six years, Kaitlyn.
“He just loved life and loved life and he loved everybody, he was just heading to work, he wasn’t doing anything wrong”, said Kaitlyn.
State Police are still investigating what caused the driver of the pick-up truck, Kevin Smith of Wales, to cross lanes and crash into Perry’s car.

We are all still soooo torn up over losing him. He was the best son, brother, cousin, and friend anyone could of asked for. The fact that the man who hit him has now again "fallen asleep" at the wheel blows my mind, and I hope he will finally be brought to justice 10 months later....
