Springfield may soon be home to a new NBA Developmental League team.

It's the NBA's version of the minor league, or the NHL's version of the AHL. But the Springfield Falcons won't be the only attraction in town.

Rumors are that the Philadelphia 76ers or the New Jersey Nets may be the next in line to have a D-League team and that team would come to Springfield.

It would be a chance for fans to see budding prospects, players of the verge of greatness, or current superstars rehabbing, in action.

Right now, 17 cities have teams in the Development League. It's the NBA's goal to have all 30 teams represented with a city.

"It keeps some of these players from going over to Europe and what we're doing is keeping some of the best players in the US and they very likely would move up to an NBA team very quickly," John Doleva.
