Northampton Policeman Attacked

Northampton Police say one of their officers was attacked while investigating an attempted break-in New Year's Eve.

CBS 3 Springfield was first to report that the policeman and his partner came upon a potential burgler at a business on Pleasant Street around 9:45pm. The man went after one of the officers with a hammer.

The attacker was arrested and the policeman was rushed to the hospital with a serious head injury. CBS 3 Springfield News will have a full report Thursday at 6, 10 and 11pm.
