Holding up pink slips last week, Mayor Domenic Sarno warned of potential cuts, if the Springfield Loan Bill didn't pass. But Tuesday night, the House of Representatives passed it. As part of the bill, people hired by the city here on out, will have to live in Springfield within six months.

It is something Representative Cheryl Coakley-Rivera was pushing for through an amendment in the bill. But it will only effect new employees or those getting promotions. "Obviously union contracts are contracts, you cannot legislate in violation of a contract. But there are many employees that aren't unionized in Springfield, like department heads, summer jobs, secretaries," said Rep. Cheryl Coakley-Rivera.

Rep. Coakley-Rivera as well as other city officials say this will help not only bring in more revenue to the city, but help employees become more invested in the community. "Part of our problem is a lot of our workforce does not live here. It is a domino effect, buying homes, shopping in the city and doing the due diligence. It's a step in the right direction," said Springfield City Council President, Bud Williams.

The Senate will look at the revised bill on Monday.
