Crews were working overtime on Tuesday fixing downed power lines and cutting up limbs that littered the streets of Springfield. Trees took a beating from winds blowing between 40 and 50mph.

From the ground, to the tree tops, everything took a beating from winds blowing between 40 and 50mph across Western Mass. "This morning we heard a very large rumble and when we observed out the window, we noticed the top of the telephone pole had been sheared off along with the street lamp," said Jeffrey Croze, a Springfield resident who saw the aftermath of a downed power line on his street.

Large tree limbs blew down live power lines along South Branch Parkway. It burned a hole in the ground alongside the street. Police blocked the street and many other roads, so power company crews could reach the downed wires.
