A third woman in less than three months is left for dead after being brutally beaten and raped in Springfield's South End. Springfield Police found her unconscious in a parking lot early Saturday morning.

South End resident Hilda Guzman just heard about Saturday's rape and says she's seen a lot of things in the neighborhood that make her worry.

"I've seen a lot of drug trafficking, loitering and prostitution around here," said Guzman. And now a near deadly rape.

Springfield police say around 4 a.m. Saturday officers were driving by the area of Main Street and Mill River Lane when they found a woman who had beaten and raped lying in a parking lot.

Police are looking into the possibility the attacker of Saturday's rape is connected to two other rapes. In late October, two women were also found in the same condition in an abandoned Mill Street apartment just up the hill. The victims are known to police.

Residents say these rapes have them alarmed and will take extra precautions. "It's like you don't even want to leave your house anymore. You can't even walk to the store, you don't even know if its safe going to be anymore," said Guzman.

Saturday's victim is still recovering at Baystate and is unable to speak yet. Call the Special Victim's Unit at the Springfield Police Department with any information at (413) 787-6352.
