With the holidays right around the corner, many people are giving thanks and giving back. For one Springfield couple, "giving" is taking on a special meaning--the meaning of life.

Matthew House and his fiance Elizabeth Kelly share a hospital room at Baystate Medical Center. And now they share something else, a kidney. Two years ago Matthew came down with pneumonia and tests revealed his kidneys were failing. After more than a year on dialysis, he was in desperate need of a transplant. But he never thought his fiance' would be the donor.

"We didn't think we had the same blood type, but it turns out we do, " says Matthew House.

On Wednesday, the two were wheeled into surgery and today House's new kidney is 100 percent functioning. Despite her early fears of going under the knife, his fiance says she would do it all over again.

"It's one of the greatest gifts you can give, I would do it again a million times over, " says Elizabeth Kelly.

And his prognosis looks excellent. His doctor says he has a healthy future ahead. The couple, who had to put their wedding plans on hold, is looking forward to a long future together. A bond between man and woman that will last forever.

"It's really hard to explain, I can't believe a part of me is inside him, making him live it's amazing, " adds Kelly.
