With percussion, colorguard and brass, the Targets Drum and Bugle Corps seems to have it all - everything, that is, but a way to the big competition.
This, after a Connecticut bus company pulled out at the last minute. "They just couldn't do it for us and just pulled the floor out from under us, I guess you could say and so we need transportation to get there," said executive director, Michael Courtney.
The nonprofit organization gives kids a chance to express themselves. "Keeps them off the street, keeps them out of trouble, gives them focus, self discipline," said parent and volunteer, Dawn Souza.
Drumline member, Alicia Hernandez said, "It's a little bit addicting after a while, um, I just, I love to play, you know, music's always been a passion of mine."
Hours of practice all come down to the Drum Corps International Championships in Madison, Wisconsin. "It's what we look forward to, we put in, you know, hundreds of hours of practice for a nine minute show," Hernandez said.
It's a nine minute show that, this year, might not make it to Madison. Dawn Souza said, "They put so much into what they're doing that to not be able to go on tour because we have a bus problem is heartbreaking."
That's why these kids need your help. "We just need help getting the kids there because I would hate not to have the kids go, they work so hard all through the year for that moment," Michael Courtney said.
If they get the help they need, the Targets Drum and Bugle Corps just might bang their drums, wave their flags and toot their horns to an international title.
