Movie Crews in Western Mass

By Lesley Tanner

"It's exciting because it's always in Hollywood, but this time it's here," says Judy Wells of Shutesbury.

"We've been sitting in the breakroom, watching out windows, and we're very excited," says Atkins Farms Employee Angela Hodgkins.

Crews are using a closed set near Amherst's Atkins Farms. Employees there were the first to get a glimpse of Gibson.

"I was jumping up and down and screaming like I was a little girl," says Hodgkins. "A lot of people came up and got his autograph, so it was really nice."

Gibson stars as a Boston Police officer investigating his daughter's murder, and though much of the film will feature the Baystate's capitol, next week crews will focus on a building on the top of Mount Sugarloaf in Deerfield. The mountain cabin will be used as a hideout for the movie's villain, and locals say the filmmakers picked the perfect spot.

"It's a lovely mountain, it's a lovely view, it's probably not as expensive as another place and it's fun," says Olga Boutcharova of Deerfield.

The crews are here and as you heard there have been some Mel Gibson sightings in Western Mass, and publicists tell me he will be back in Downtown Northampton for more shooting on Monday and Tuesday.
