On Saturday evening, September 21st, CBS 3 Springfield aired a Special Presentation titled: "The New England Hurricane". You can see this program in its entirety by clicking the link above.

In the program, experts from around the area contributed to help describe the distinct qualities of that rare hurricane that can make it to New England.

Also, a documentation of the last 50 years of New England hurricanes, complete with vintage photo and video footage of each.

Appearing on the eve of the 70th anniversary of the Great New England Hurricane of 1938, this program delved into that storm, with actual video of the storm, and numerous first-hand accounts of what the winds did to the area, and the flooding that soon followed.

Being such a monumental disaster, the most costly event to ever strike New England is now regarded as our present-and-future 'Doomsday scenario', where-by many emergency management efforts are directed at lessening the blow of a return-event of similar magnitude. The combination of widespread wind damage and record river flooding requires attention across a diversity of emergency management departments. Local emergency management officials sat down with CBS 3 Springfield to discuss the need to be prepared for such a situation-- for it may require your help to save parts of our cities.
