Lasia Martin can't believe the home she grew up in on Clifton Ave is just days away from being foreclosed.

"I grew up in this home since I was 18 this is all I know, " says Martin.

And she says it's all because her 86-year-old grandmother, who suffers from Alzheimer's, was talked into a mortgage she didn't need.

Her grandmother had just payed off her second mortgage, but was contacted to sign up for a third mortgage to pay for repairs to her home, but she hasn't been able to keep up with the 8-hundred-dollar a month payment. It's a similar situation thousands of other homeowners are currently facing through out the city.

Hina Skeikn heads up Acorn, a community based organization, that works in Springfield neighborhoods to find out what problems residents are facing.

Last year, they helped more than 4-thousand families avoid foreclosure. And they want to do it again. They are hosting a free foreclosure prevention workshop this weekend.

Their goal is to help 20-thousand families keep their homes. It's information, Lasia Martin wishes her grandmother had, but she's hoping it's not too late.

"I will seek out any help I can. I will go the distance for it, the home has been in our family for a while, " adds Martin.

The ACORN Homeownership/Foreclosure Fair is taking place Saturday, September 6th from 10am-2pm at Springfield's High School of Science and Technology.
