Loon Pond Residents Wait Another Year

Tools

By Miranda Grossman

Loon Pond has been closed for a few years for renovations. And it has been further delayed because of concern about bacteria. Springfield Parks and Recreation officials say they are worried about weed and bacteria growth.

They are waiting for permission from the DEP to apply an herbicidal treatment to the water to clean it up.

Residents say they can't wait for their local swimming hole to open up again.

"I would love to be able to come out of my house, walk down the hill and go swimming again anytime I want," said Connor Gadbois, who grew up next to the pond.

Officials hope to open up Loon Pond back to the public next spring.
