Supporting A Local Marine

Tools

By Liz Tufts

Michael Lamica has been hearing from dozens of people who heard about the theft of his son's belongings. Robert Lamica is a Marine Corporal who is just days away from being deployed to Iraq for the second time.

"Rob is serving our country, any serviceman just crushes me to see that happen, " says Michael Lamica.

The father was helping his son's wife moved from a military base in North Carolina to the Lamica's home in Florence. While the family slept in a motel on the way north, someone stole their truck and a U-Haul packed with almost everything the Marine and his wife own. Everything from their apartment, and personal belongings that can never be replaced.

"The medals he earned in Iraq, his sword are gone, " says Robert's father.

The sword he used to cut his wedding cake, his wife's wedding dress, and his dress blue uniform were all stolen. We talked with Robert Lamica over the phone from North Carolina, and he says he and his wife are still in shock.

"I'm doing a lot better than I was doing a couple of days ago, but my wife is still is doing pretty bad, she's the one who's having a tough time, " says Cpl. Robert Lamica.

But the support from strangers is helping them get through this terrible ordeal. People have been calling him and his father in Florence, wanting to donate anything they can. An ex-Marine from Philadelphia even offered to donate his own dress blues.

"Our phone has been ringing off the hook, people really want to help, I think they too think this was a terrible thing, a terrible thing that happened, " says Michael Lamica.

If you would like to help the Lamica family get back on their feet they have set up a fund at any Bank of America. Make checks payable to: Benefit of the Lamica Family. Asst. fund.
