Marine's Belongings Stolen

By Justine Judge

Marine Robert Lamica was getting ready for his second deployment to Iraq on Monday. So his parents drove to North Carolina to bring his wife and the couple's belongings back to Massachusetts. During the trip home to Florence, the family stayed at a motel in Delaware.

While they slept, a security camera recorded their car and Uhaul being driven away, stolen in the middle of the night.

The Marines Father Michael Lamica says, "We saw a van pull up next to my truck about at 11:45 that night and it looks like somebody snuck out and went around the truck and but then the camera at the hotel shut off for 11 minutes and when it came back on my truck was gone."

Along with everything Robert and his wife owned.

Lamica says, "Everything they own is on that truck and in the trailer, all of his Iraq medals all of his Iraq pictures, their wedding pictures, their furniture, their clothes, everything they own is on that truck."

Cpl.Jeffrey Whitmarsh with Delaware State Police says, "Out of all the people to be victimized, a marine serving the United States is ready to leave in about 7 days and he's going to be away from his family, his wife, his mom and dad and here he goes, his stuff is gone."

Delaware police say they found out the white van that had pulled up next to the Lamica's truck had been stolen Friday night in Newark. They hope that information will help them find the truck, the trailer, and their irreplaceable memories.

Lamica says, "If I could get his Iraq medals and sword back I would be happy I don't even care about the truck."

Delaware police are still searching for the Lamica's stolen truck which was white a 2001 dodge ram with Massachusetts plates.

Anyone with information is asked to call their local Police Department.
