A jolt of coffee and a shot of spirituality. That is what's on the menu at the Daily Grind Coffee House and Cafe in Southwick.

Jeff King, the Senior Pastor at Christ Lutheran Church, says his ministry wanted to reach out to the community and create a central spot for people to gather. So they renovated a building on the church's property and started brewing.

"We partnered with a nationally known franchise and we have been working with them. They provided us with all of the training and all of the materials," explained King.

The café is owned and operated by the church.

"We wanted a place that was warm and welcoming and served great food and great coffee," says King's wife and Executive Director of the church, Kathy King.

It is a trend that many churches across the country are trying, in order to extend Sunday worship into Sunday brunch.

"Sunday morning we have back to back services, every hour we have a different service, before and after people can come here to the cafe. We invite them to get a latte, take their coffee and bring it up to the worship service," said King.

Profits will be shared by the ministry or a charity. The receipts from the grand opening in August will go to Habitat for Humanity. Whatever your faith, King says everyone is welcome, since coffee can awaken anyone's spirits.

There are more than 70 Daily Grind locations nationwide, but this will be the first location in the Northeast. The daily grind is open seven days a week, 6 a.m until 9 p.m.
