It started as a love triangle, but ended with a man in critical condition. Now, police are searching for a firefighter accused of having intentions to murder.

Some residents of Allen Park Apartments woke up to screams Friday morning. A fight right on the common green escalated from words being exchanged, to a man getting slashed multiple times.

Neighbors say the person wielding that box cutter was Springfield firefighter Angel Rosario.

"He's a firefighter, so he's supposed to be protecting us," says Allen Park resident Ray Santiago.

Police say instead, he was going at the current boyfriend of his ex-girlfriend. Thursday night that couple had a fight. Somehow Rosario found out about it and showed up early Friday morning. Police say that's when this love triangle turned violent.

Sergeants say the victim was punctured twice in the back, sliced deep in the neck, and slashed a few more times on the wrists as well. Rosario hasn't been seen since.

"This place was a beautiful place and safe, but now, it turns out to be that you're not safe to get out of the door," says one scared witness.

We learned Rosario was earlier evicted for trespassing. A visit to his former apartment shows his mail is still being delivered. A letter from the Fire Department was at his former front door.

Some residents too shaken to speak on camera say Rosario was no stranger to trouble.

"He got away long enough. It was about two years this was going on and he should be stopped," says one resident.

We did speak with the woman at the center of this love triangle. She was with her children at the time and had no comment.

Another person was arrested in this case. 26 year old Nathan Boucher was arrested during the fight and has been charged with assault and battery with a dangerous weapon.

The victim in all of this has been upgraded to stable condition, but police say he is lucky to be alive.
