Teen Shot By Police Tells Story

On a bright Monday morning, Louis Jiles is sidelines, sitting with a tightly wrapped wrist, just days after it was wounded by a Springfield Police bullet.

"Last thing I expected was to get shot," Jiles says recalling the events.

It happened Saturday night as Louis was cruising around Forest Park, with an open bottle of beer. Police first noticed the 18 year old on Oakland Street. Louis spotted them too and tried to get away.

"I didn't pull directly over. I tried to make a turn around the corner to throw the beer in the backseat without them seeing me," he says.

Louis pulled over one block away on Kensington Avenue. As Louis made a move out of the car, that's when the tension skyrocketed.

"I heard them say 'put your hands up.' and as I put my hands up, the officer fired three rounds. They were aiming for my head. The officer told me directly you're lucky to be alive right now, I was aiming for your head," Jiles recalls.

He says police fired three shots. The back window of his mom's Honda Accord, is blown out and the blood from his bullet wound is still plastered all over the driver's side door.

"I made a mistake for not pulling right over, but and having an open container, but there was no reason for me to be shot," Jiles says.

The jury's still out on that. Springfield Police staying silent on this one as the investigation continues on.

Jiles posted $40 bail and will be arraigned Tuesday on multiple charges. One being assault with a dangerous weapon.

When CBS 3 asked police what that weapon was, they couldn't answer, saying it's still under investigation.

However, after the arraignment, District Attorney William Bennett is expected to make a statement, answering some of the things police aren't.
