The Galley Closes Its Doors

The Galley Closes Its Doors

By Justine Judge

Customers, or should I say good friends and family were lined up out the door. All wanting to order their favorite "Galley" breakfast for the last time.

Galley owner Bob Labine says, "My favorite is blueberry pancakes and ham and cheese omelets and anything else really, everyone likes everything and I try to serve things I like because if I wouldn't eat it I wouldn't serve it."

After 34 year of business, Labine says the economy and rising cost of doing business along with state and local regulations has forced him to shut down. It's a decision long time customers have having a tough time with as many of them have been sitting in the same Galley booth every Sunday since it opened.

Marie Meder, a Galley customer, says, "Every sunday morning I would meet my parents here and my sister, my brother and we always sat in the same seat."

Labine's daughter, Valerie Perry, says, "I was 5 years old standing on a milk crate buttering toast because all of us kids had to work here."

Customers say the Galley always a favorite place to go because of the atmosphere. Something that will be hard to find anywhere else.

Bob says what he'll miss most is all the fun he's had and the people he's met throughout the years and says while the good times don't last forever the memories always will.

"It's time for me to bow out."
