Eight years ago, 16-year-old Molly Bish went missing and was later found dead. Her parents are hoping new leads will point police to her killer.
"I think the reason that we do this is that we want her to be remembered. We honor her," said Magi Bish at a vigil Friday night, eight years to the day that her daughter vanished.
Molly's spirit still lives in the hearts and minds of the town of Warren. She worked as a lifeguard at Comins Pond. Five years later, in 2003 her remains were found in a wooded area, and the missing persons case became a murder investigation; one that still has not been solved.
Joseph Early, Worcester County District Attorney said: "This is an active and ongoing investigation, and rest assured, we're not stopping on this until we found who killed Molly Bish."
And neither will the friends, family and supporters who remembered Molly while a violin played just a few feet away from the white wooden lifeguard stand where she once worked.
"I can't imagine that eight years have passed, and we want people to know that the case is not solved," Magi Bish said.
The status of the case both worries them but also gives them hope as nearly a hundred tips in the past year are leading police to the potential killer.
"We're hoping they'll have a development. They need that break - that one piece of information that will bring it all together for us," said John Bish, who missed last year's vigil after suffering a stroke.
Also honored Friday by candlelight at the vigil, eight other missing children, including 12-year-old Brooke Bennett. Just about a hundred miles north of Warren in Randolph, Vermont, Bennett's family is frantically searching for their little girl. She went missing on Wednesday morning, and on Thursday police found Bennett's clothes on the side of a road. Surveillance video shows Bennett in a convenience store before she went missing. The Bish's said the family has already reached out to them.
"We had a call [Friday morning]. We have already made buttons for the family. We've encouraged them to do vigils and to make posters, and we'll be as supportive as we can," Magi Bish said.
Vermont police said Bennett was likely abducted by someone she met through "Myspace.com". The Bish family started up the Molly Bish Foundation to help families of abducted children. Magi said nowadays the Internet plays a major role in social networking, and that makes it very easy for predators to do their work right through the family computer.
