State Rep. Candidate Addresses Plagiarism Charges

Chelan Brown's website is down. But this is what it looked like days ago. Images provided by Springfield Intruder.com, show exactly why Brown pulled the content.

One the issue of jobs, Brown's site read, "in this era of outsourcing and downsizing I am committed to creating jobs in Western Massachusetts."

It goes on, but it matches, word for word, Kathy Angerer's website. She's a State Representative candidate in Michigan.

And yet another. On the budget, a picture of the state of Washington appeared on her website with the same message, Washington candidate, Scott White has on his.

"It's a sad day in politics when we engage in meaningless dialog about websites and designs," Brown says at a press conference on the steps of City Hall.

Brown's explanation is that her website was recently hacked. She says red flags went up as soon as she saw her purported stance on the environment.

"That has never been a high priority issue in my entire life, or people I represent," she says.

This isn't the only battle Brown is dealing with.

Questions about her residency have surfaced over the past few days. Brown claims 5 Olney Ave as her home, but she's been traced to three different addresses this year alone. It's a big discrepancy that could get her out of the race, if challenged by the election commission deadline on Friday.

Brown says she has suspicions of who is behind the hacking, but will not go to police unless it happens again.

Brown is trying out oust Rep. Benjamin Swan who represents the 11th Hampden District.
