Greenfield Schools Budget Crisis

Tools

By Matthew Campbell

Just months after discovering the school system was facing a $1.6 million shortfall, Greenfield schools may be forced to cut jobs yet again.

The budget was submitted by Mayor Christine Forgey called for the cuts of 35 jobs and the closing of 3 schools. Essentially, that budget would solve the schools financial crisis.

Another budget was submitted by the former school superintendent, Marcia Evans. That budget would call for things to remain status quot.

That was the budget, the Greenfield School Committee is backing.

Nothing is finalized yet, because the committee is calling for the city council and the mayor to join together to work on the superintendent's budget. There, they hope to find ways to cut corners and trim some of the deficit they are facing.
