Chicopee police are still looking for the driver who hit a 62 year old man on Memorial Drive late Tuesday night.

Police say it happened around 10:45 p.m. The man was crossing Memorial Drive near the Dunkin Donuts rotary, when a white SUV struck him, then took off going south.

"Memorial Drive is one of the busiest streets in Western Mass. We have our fair share of accidents on there, but to involve pedestrians is rare," said Chicopee Police Chief John Ferraro.

The victim was treated and released from the hospital. But people who work in the area say they would never take a chance walking across that street.

"If I had to walk to work, I would take a cab," said Jenna Eldredge who works at the Bridge Café by the rotary.

"People speed along here and race around to cut around the light," adds Eldredge.

Chicopee police are looking for a white SUV and people are asked to call the police station at 594-1770 with any information.
