Unlicensed Weapons Found in Springfield Home

By Justine Judge

A domestic dispute led police to the discovery of dozens of weapons in a Springfield home. Weapons a father threatened to use on his own daughter.

When police arrived at 84 Randall Street for a reported domestic disturbance what they didn't expect to find a weapons collection that included machine guns and assault rifles. Springfield police say 60 year old Gerald Plouff had no license or permit for any of it.

Sgt. John Delaney says, "It's a concern when there is a large amount of guns in one person's particular house especially if that person isn't carrying a license or permit for the guns."

What makes the situation worse, Plouff had allegedly threatened to shoot his daughter during an argument, and more than enough guns and ammo to do it.

Delaney says, "A gun is no good unless there is amo but he had amo for the weapons that he had inside his house."

Police say it appears Plouff was a gun collector, but it's always a concern when that many weapons are found in one house.

Delaney says, "Gun violence in Springfield is at an all time high and where these guns come from is when people get their houses broken into and if somebody by chance broke into this persons house these guns would have all been on the street unlicensed and being carried by people committing crimes."

Plouff is facing charges of assault and battery with a dangerous weapon, threatening to commit a crime and possession of firearms without a permit. For now the guns will remain in police custody. Plouff is expected to appear in Springfield District Court Tuesday.
