"I joined this co-op as soon as I moved here. It was one of the first things I did," said Kim Ovrutsky, a member of the River Valley Market Co-op.

Ovrutsky and many other shoppers joined the River Valley Market Co-op as soon as it opened on Wednesday.

For $150 a year, she became part-owner of the store, which sells local items like ice cream made in Greenfield or eggs from Southampton.
