Southampton: Home to Nation's Best Tasting Water

By Matthew Campbell

Three cheers for Southampton. It's not the homemade beers from Opa Opa Southampton residents are toasting. It's the water.

"Southampton has some pretty good water," says resident Max Pont.

Pont is right. Southampton has the best tasting water in the country.

Based on taste, smell, and clarity, judges from the Great American Water Taste Test sipped, sniffed, and felt, water from 39 states and concluded, H2O from the small town in Hampshire county is best.

"I would even compare it to your bottled waters to your Poland Springs and all of that. It's a clean, clear flavor," says resident Lisa Sansousi.

"Especially on a hot summer day and you taste it. It tastes so good!," exclaims Pont.

The pristine water comes from Barnes Aquifer. It's so pure, it doesn't even need to be treated. From the aquifer, to the Southampton homes, gallons are poured into glasses each day. Residents expect and get the best, so when they travel outside their 28 square mile town, the taste test is on.

"You go to the different towns like Holyoke and West Springfield, you can definitely tell the chemicals are in there," Sansousi says.
