A West Springfield pet store has been shut down for nearly a month, but animals continue to live inside.

Instead of finding new homes, these puppies are stuck inside a closed pet shop for who knows how long.

The Puppy Palace in West Springfield was shut down by the Bureau of Animal Health about a month ago. According to the Bureau, the shop violated a settlement agreement and there had been reports of dogs being sold in poor health

"Animals in their own feces, urinated blankets, food all over just dogs looking unclean and unhealthy," said Janet Franklin when describing the pet shop.

However, other customers say it didn't look that bad.

Sandy Fleury was there before they closed. "They were all in cages and you know they were all very healthy and playful they were good looking dogs," said Fleury.

Jess Ganz also visited the shop. "The conditions I saw in there were not too bad but I wasn't in there for very long," said Ganz.

Some animal lovers said they are now concerned about what's going to happen the puppies stuck inside.

"There were a lot of puppies here I mean the whole back wall was full of little cages and they were just full of puppies and now what's going to happen to all those dogs," said Fleury.

"It concerns me a great deal the the puppies are still in there right now I think it's a very serious matter," said Ganz.

In a statement the MSPCA said the puppies are being cared for on a daily bases by store employees and for right now the puppies will remain at the shop.

The Bureau of Animal Health said they will not allow the shop to sell or transfer any animals until a health certificate is issued for each animal by a veterinarian.
