ONLY ON 3: Wanted Man Speaks

ONLY ON 3: Wanted Man Speaks

By Matthew Campbell

The fugitive who led police on a wild chase calls CBS 3 Springfield to tell his side of the story.

47 year old Felix Maldonado is still on the run. State and local police are looking for the man, but after our story ran Tuesday night, Maldonado called our studios, sharing his side of the ordeal.

"I have [no reason] to stop for, I don't got a reason no more. I know I'm not gonna see my kids no more, so hey, I don't care," he says.

The person behind a daylong search in the West Springfield woods escaped Tuesday and called CBS 3 Springfield that night.

"One thing to say to you. First, I not hit Maria. Second, Maria is not home," he states.

He identifies Maria as the mother of his children. She's also the person who accuses Felix of beating her with a firearm two Sundays ago. It's something he's adamant he didn't do.

However, Maldonado did admit to running from the cops Tuesday. He took off in a red Dodge Durango. He ditched it and fled on foot in the woods. He tells us he got out, by simply walking.

"I'm not gonna stop. I don't care anymore, I don't got my kids," he says.

Throughout the half hour conversation, Maldonado repeatedly mentions his kids.

"That's what I live for, my kids," he says.

He knows he'll probably never have custody of his children, so he says he'll continue to run. But running all the time, gets tiring, and shares an ominous clue of how this game of cat and mouse could end.

"I'm tired of everybody treating me, you know, throw me here, throw me over there, I'm not trash no more. I'm my own guy. I wanna die in peace," he says.

Maldonado didn't say where he was or where he was going. CBS 3 did turn this information in to Chicopee police in hopes that somehow it may help them to track Maldonado down.
