Protest Over Halloween Decoration

A Springfield witch takes to the streets of Chicopee to protest what she calls an offensive Halloween decoration. A witch hanging from a noose on Sast street in Chicopee is causing quite a buzz across the country, and making headlines all over the world wide web.

Last week we introduced you to Kelly Lynch, a Springfield woman who says witch-craft is her religion. So when she saw the witch dangling from a noose outside the home, she wanted it down.

"I do believe that it is a hate crime and that he is picking on women, witches, and strong women in general, " says Kelly Lynch.

But the owner hasn't budge, so she decided to take her cause to the streets--and start a protest right outside his home.

"We do not wish to harm anybody, this is a peaceful protest, " says Lynch.

We haven't been able to get in touch with the owner, but his neighbors say he has no intentions of taking it down. And they too started a protest of their own, to keep the witch where it is.

"It's been there for over four years, it goes up for Halloween, no problems, it's a Halloween decoration, people need to lighten up and get over it, " says neighbor Ken Houle.

At one point the protest got a little heated, and Chicopee police were called to East street, but in the end both parties stayed on their own sides and continued to stand up for what they believe.

"It is strong, strong dislike and hate for a person and a specific religion that is known all over the United States, " says protestor Melissa Mercier.

As for Kelly she's hoping the witch will come down from it's noose before Halloween...but either way if its down or not-she just hopes her message was heard.

"Wtches have rights too, under freedom of religion, " adds Lynch.
