Digs for Two

A bedroom shared by sisters can seem to shrink when they reach their teens. Can’t give them their own rooms? There may be a solution when there’s plenty of floor space for separate teenaged hangouts. Sisters sharing a 23-by-12 foot bedroom already had two doorways, but only a single closet at one end. Storage was a concern.

Click for bigThe design that pleases everyone: a divider wall made of purchased storage units. They face the closetless side of the room, offering a mirrored cabinet with shelves, drawers, and a wardrobe unit. Next to these units, two bookcases placed back-to-back divide the room and give both girls additional storage. Bookcases on each end of custom trundle beds add even more storage. Colorful coordinating comforters reflect each girl’s personality and provide a palette for defining each sister’s space. Each now has privacy so they can both have friends over.
