People who readily pardon others enjoy lower levels of depression and blood pressure than those who cling to their grievances. Now researchers have also found that those who tend to let bygones be bygones also find their lives more fulfilling. The people who are most likely to forgive—and to reap the benefits—are women and regular churchgoers. “Forgiveness doesn’t just make you less depressed and less stressed,” explains researcher Kathleen Lawler-Row, Ph.D., East Carolina University. “It can also help you feel that your life is being well lived.” —Katie Brophy
